Welcome to the February edition of the Florida T2 Center Newsletter. Here at T2, we are always seeking new ways to develop the tools we have to serve you, including attending conferences, exploring out-of-state training options, and gaining funding to offer workshops at no cost.

We have experienced some internal staff changes lately and we are confident you will see the same great service you’ve come to expect from us. This month, Chris LeDew celebrated one year here at the T2 Center. He is continually learning, discussing, and discovering ways to bring the most options and resources to our customers.

Training

T2 Center Conducts Road Safety Audit Workshops for CTSTs

The state of Florida is the focus of many national safety initiatives, due to high injuries and fatalities on our state’s roadways. To support such initiatives, we acquired funding to offer Road Safety Assessments (RSAs) courses at no cost to Community Traffic Safety Team (CTST) members.

On the Road: Our Pilot Escort Course Travels to Alabama

On January 17, the T2 Center provided Pilot Escort training in Russellville, Alabama to over 50 participants. With such a large class, the organizers had to get creative with location. 

Events

Transportation Research Board 94th Annual Meeting in D.C.

Chris LeDew started the year out with a trip to the largest gathering of transportation professionals in the world. For five days in the heart of Washington, D.C., this conference attracted 12,000 people, 5,000 presentations, 750 sessions, 200 committee meetings, and 300 trade show exhibits. For a first-time participant like Chris, it was a real eye-opener!

NLTAPA Winter Business Meeting in Arlington, VA

Every year, NLTAPA members meet in Arlington, VA, in conjunction with the TRB Annual Conference to discuss association business, network, and view presentations from partners and subject matter experts. This year was no exception, and Chris LeDew was in attendance to represent the Florida LTAP program.

T2 Center Hosts APWA Luncheon

On January 14, The Florida T2 Center hosted the APWA Santa Fe Branch Quarterly meeting at its office on the East Campus of UF in Gainesville.

Occupant Protection Resource Center Update

This quarter, Florida’s OPRC has new information for you on LATCH manuals, available CPS scholarships, and Florida’s car seat laws.

Florida’s Minority Task Force Begins Coalition Building Efforts

As part of a comprehensive approach to motor vehicle safety, this grant aims to increase safety belt usage for Florida’s African American and Hispanic populations. Last year, Task Force members identified the need for a larger coalition, if the team is to accomplish its vision, so the T2 Center hosted a meeting on January 27 that aimed to present prospective team members with a picture of the grant mission and the efforts involved in delivering the safety message.
