Child passenger safety technicians (CPSTs) apply their training and expertise in a variety of community-based settings. These include child safety seat checkup events, where parents and caregivers receive:
- one-on-one education about proper child restraint use,
- hands-on assistance with installing and adjusting child safety seats, and
- guidance on selecting the appropriate seat for their child’s age, weight, and height.
These efforts help ensure children are safely transported in motor vehicles and empower families with the knowledge to protect their loved ones. Scholarships are available for community advocates seeking certification as CPSTs, as well as to nationally certified CPSTs pursuing recertification, instructor candidacy, or technician proxy status and cover the following Safe Kids Worldwide fees:
| Technicians | Instructors | Proxy | Renewal |
| Certification course – $95 | Candidate application – $85 | Proxy application – $25 | Testing course – $95 |
| Recertification – $55 | Recertification – $60 |
