Funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) through the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and housed at the University of Florida Transportation Institute’s (UFTI) Transportation Technology Transfer (T2) Center, the Child Passenger Safety Resources and Bicycle Resources initiatives provide ongoing support to traffic safety professionals dedicated to Florida’s goal of eliminating transportation-related fatalities and serious injuries.
Child Passenger Safety Resources
The Child Passenger Safety Resources initiative supports Florida’s child passenger safety and occupant protection partners through scholarships, stipends, communication, outreach, and educational resources. Scholarships are available for community advocates seeking certification as Child Passenger Safety Technicians (CPSTs) as well as certified CPSTs pursuing recertification, instructor candidacy, or technician proxy status.
Stipends are available to Child Passenger Safety Technician Instructors (CPST-Is) for teaching the CPST Certification Training Course in FDOT priority counties. Follow the Child Passenger Safety Resources link below to apply for scholarships and stipends, locate Florida’s CPS fitting stations, review child safety seat recalls, subscribe to the CPS e-newsletter, and discover upcoming webinars and CPS events.
FDOT provides funding for the purchase of child safety seats, which are distributed by certified CPSTs to parents and caregivers in need. To order child safety seats and or free educational and outreach resources, visit the Florida Traffic Safety Resource Center (FTSRC) store.
Bicycle Resources
The Bicycle Resources initiative supports community bicycle safety advocates by providing bicycle helmet certification and recertification training. It also engages community partners through participation in state and local events and supports certified bicycle helmet fitters and regional trainer partners through helmet distribution.
FDOT funds the purchase of bicycle helmets for certified helmet fitters to distribute during community safety events. Follow the Bicycle Resources link below to find more about bicycle helmet fitting certification and refresher training or request support for a community outreach event. To order bicycle helmets and or free educational resources visit the FTSRC store.
