Become a Helmet Fitter

The Bike Helmet Promotion Program is a 2-hour course taught by Florida regional helmet fitter trainers.

Simply contact a regional trainer to take a helmet fitting course.

Every bike ride begins with putting on a helmet – the single most important step to protect your head and prevent serious injury in a crash. Equally important that the helmet fits properly so it provides the best protection. Becoming a bike helmet fitter offers a rewarding way to promote safety and public health within your community.

Here’s how you can make a difference as a Florida certified bicycle helmet fitter:

  • Prevent severe head and brain injuries: Properly fitting helmets can reduce the risk of head injuries by nearly 50% and traumatic brain injuries by over 50%.
  • Contribute to public health: By teaching individuals and communities how to properly fit helmets, you help prevent serious injuries and deaths. This is especially impactful for children, who are more likely to be involved in bike-related incidents and suffer head injuries.
  • Volunteering and teaching: If you enjoy teaching and public outreach, becoming a certified helmet fitter can be a fulfilling volunteer role. Fitters often work at community events like bike rodeos, health fairs, and school functions to distribute and fit helmets. This provides a direct, hands-on way to interact with, teach and help people.
